After becoming a qualified General Surgeon, Phil spent a further 2 years training in liver, pancreas and bile duct surgery in Singapore and Adelaide. He moved to Darwin in 2016 as there was a clear need for a General Surgeon specialised in liver and pancreas surgery.
He sees patients with: liver cancers (either primary or liver metastasis); bile duct and gallbladder cancers and complex gallstone disease; as well as pancreas cancers and other pancreatic conditions.
He works within an interstate multidisciplinary team of surgeons, gastroenterologists, and radiologists.
Our surgeons specialise in benign conditions, such as gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and hiatus hernia as well as cancers of the oesophagus, stomach and duodenum.
For benign disease, we perform a range of investigations to ensure that you can achieve the best results from surgery.
The management of upper gastrointestinal cancers will always be within a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, oncologists, radiation oncologists and radiologists with recommendations and second opinions from interstate experts.
In addition to gastroscopy and colonscopy, we provide endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) for bile duct and pancreatic conditions, endoscopic stenting for intestinal obstructions and endoscopic weight loss procedures,
pH Monitoring is the gold standard for investigating reflux symptoms such as pain, cough, hoarseness and sore throat. It is a simple procedure performed in the rooms without requirement for an anaesthetic. A small probe is introduced for 24 hours while the pH or acid levels are recorded. This information allows us to correlate symptoms with the acid levels. Some patients may be suitable for reflux surgery with the aim of curing reflux disease and ceasing acid medications.
NT Surgery is the sole provider of this service in the Northern Territory and is available to public and private patients.
